Deepawali is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil and Lord Rama, Lakshman and Sita returning to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile in the forests winning against the strongest demon King Ravana. On this day houses are cleaned up, decorated with electric lightings, diyas, earthen pots, and lanterns to honor Ram Chandra and his winning over the evil.  People wear new clothes and delicious food is prepared at homes along with sweets.  The festival continues with sweets, greetings and gifts exchange.
